The OUTSTANDING WW2 D.S.M. To Simpson - R.N.P.S. HMT Horatio
The Superb Distinguished Service Medal Gvi awarded to
JX.202164 W.H.L.SIMPSON. L.SMN.
William Harold Leon Simpson was awarded the D.S.M. for Shooting down and fighting off Enemy Aircraft in 1942, entry London Gazette for 7th July 1942, whilst serving in the Royal Navy Patrol Service on board His Majesty's Trawler Horatio, this was later sunk in 1943 but it appears Simpson was no longer on board.
His Citation reads as follows
For Courage and Steadfastness in beating off an attack by two groups of three enemy aircraft, destroying one aircraft and seriously damaging another.
