Iraq War & Afghanistan OSM Group, Royal Highland Fusiliers - Named To Porter
A General Service Medal 1962 - 2007 (also known as the Campaign Service Medal), Iraq War & Afghanistan Operational Service medal group awarded to 25151077 Fusilier J. E. Porter of the Royal Highland Fusiliers, (later the Royal Regiment of Scotland (Scots). The history of the regiment can be viewed by clicking on here.
The regiment undertook five tours of duty in Northern Ireland and in the summer of 2015 units of the battalion were deployed to Afghanistan to train the Afghan National Army as a part of Operation Herrick details of which can be viewed by clicking on here.
The Iraq Medal was awarded for service in the Iraq War which is not to be confused with the 1st Gulf War. Note 1, as part of the ‘Delivering Security in a Changing World Review of the Armed Forces’, the regiment was amalgamated with the other regiments of the Scottish Division to become the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland which was formed on the 28th March 2006. The battalion moved to Glencorse Barracks in Penicuik at the same time (from a medal point of view they became the ‘SCOTS’ at this time).
The medals have been professionally court mounted and come in a felts protective outer.
