A WW2 medal group awarded to 562819, Warrant Officer, William Harold Mackrell who served with the Royal Air Force. There are a number of details regarding Mackrell on Ancestry which can be viewed by clicking on here. In summary, Mackrell was born in November 1912 at Andover, Hampshire and enlisted into the RAF on his 18th birthday in November 1930.

Some limited details regarding his service can be viewed by clicking on here, (if you have a subscription to ‘find my past’), although his Service Book does provide further details and does confirm the issue of the WW2 campaign stars.

It’s clear that Mackrell was a career RAF serviceman, it does not seem that he ever married or had any children, he died at Andover in 2001 aged 89.
