A General Service Medal 1962 - 2007, (also known as the Campaign Service Medal), awarded to 23883961, Rifleman Geoffrey Albert Edward Mitchell, who served with the 2nd Battalion the Green Jackets, (later The Royal Green Jackets).

The details of his award are as follows:

General Service Medal 1962 - 2007, (with clasps BORNEO and MALAYA PENINSULA) named to 23883961 RFN G. MITCHELL 2 GREEN JACKETS.

The medal is pin mounted and comes with the original ribbon and box of issue.

The 2nd Green Jackets, (The King's Royal Rifle Corps), had been stationed at Roman Barracks, Colchester since July 1962 when they were deployed to British Guiana in July 1963.

In January 1965, they were sent from there to Penang in Malaya before moving on to Sarawak Borneo in October 1965 as a part of the 19th Brigade.

The actions and activities of the Borneo and Malayan campaigns can be viewed by clicking on here and on here.

Following this, in January 1966, The Royal Green Jackets was formed by the amalgamation of the three separate regiments of the Green Jackets Brigade: the 1st Green Jackets (43rd and 52nd), the 2nd Green Jackets, the King's Royal Rifle Corps and the 3rd Green Jackets, the Rifle Brigade (Prince Consort's Own).

In 1967 the deployment in Asia ended when The Royal Green Jackets were posted to West Germany and became a part of the British Army On The Rhine.
