China 1842 Medal, Baltic 1854-5 Medal.

China Medal named as follows:- V.M. MASSINGBORD. LIEUT. H.M.S. BLENHEIM. replacement ring and straight bar suspender.
Baltic Medal un-named as issued. repair to suspender, no longer swivels.

Son of the Reverend Charles Bolle and Mary Massingberd, the Rector of Kettlethorpe, Leicestershire.
Born c.1809
Married Julia 3.9.1844.
Died 29.11.1889, Thame, Oxfordshire.

Entered the Royal Navy as a 1st class Volunteer HMS Ariadne 28, served in the Cape of Good Hope.
Exchanged 1824 to HMS Andromache 46.
Returned to England.
1825 Midshipman HMS Prince Regent 120.
1826 HMS Jasper 10, Mediterranean,
Wounded in Action in a boat action against Pirates 11.10.1827.
Survived the shipwreck off Santa Maura 11.10.1828.
Passed examination in 20.6.1828 nominated Mate February 1829 of HMS Prince Regent, flag ship of Sir Henry Blackwood.
November 1829 HMS Volage 28.
Escorted the ex-Emperor and Empress of Brazil to Cherbourg.
Employed in the enforcing of the Dutch Embargo of 1832.
February 1834 HMS Salamander.
September 1835 HMS Rodney 92, stationed in the Mediterranean, Invalided June 1836.
Promoted to Lieutenant 10.1.1837, to HMS Pelorus 16, serving in the East Indies, survived the shipwreck off Port Essington 25.11.1839.
Senior Lieutenant HMS Blenheim 72, 20.6.1841.
Promoted Commander 23.12.1842.
Served in the China War of 1842.
Paid off March 1843.
In Command HMS Alecto, South East Coast of America, 17.11.1846.
In Command of the Coastguard 28.1.1852.
HMS Neptune 1.7.1854, Served as Commander then promoted to Captain 16.5.1855 HMS Neptune during the Crimean War 1854-56, served in the Baltic Blockade of 1854-55.
Retired to pension as Captain July 1864.
Promoted to Rear Admiral Retired 6.4.1873.
Promoted to Vice Admiral Retired 21.3.1878.
Promoted Admiral Retired 30.10.1884.
Died 29th November 1889, survived by his wife who was granted a pension of £120.0.0.
