Victorian Pair, Lancashire Fusilier’s - Named to Stott

A pair of Victorian medals awarded to 8882, (later 4344) Corporal, (later Sergeant) John Stott, who served with the Lancashire Fusiliers. Stott who was already in the militia, enlisted into the Lancashire Fusiliers regulars in January 1900.
According to his service papers, which can be viewed by clicking on here, (if you have access to ‘find my past’), they detail the fact that he deployed to South Africa in March 1901 and was there for just over a year. The QSA is his only award for this campaign.
The actions and activity undertaken by his regiment while in South Africa can be viewed by clicking on here - he would have been one of the 650 men of the militia who sailed to South Africa in February 1901.

Stott was born in 1863 in Rochdale Lancashire. He married Elizabeth Chadwick in 1891 and had a number of children some of whom went on to serve in WW1. His entire family history has been mapped out in Ancestry and can be viewed by clicking on here, (if you have access to Ancestry).
It appears that he died in April 1924, there is also a reference to him in the Chelsea Pensioner’s records which are available and can be viewed by clicking on here (again if you have access to Ancestry).
