East West Africa Medal Corporal J Edwards West India Regiment Entitled 3 Clasps
East & West Africa CAMPAIGN MEDAL 1887-1900
East and West Africa medal 1887-1900, awarded to Corporal Edwards 1st Battalion West India Regiment, officially engraved name ( 271 PTE J EDWARDS 1/W.I. RGT, promoted to Corporal on Sierra Leone roll 1898) , entitled to 3 clasps on three medal rolls, 1892, 1893-94 and Sierra Leone 1898-99 clasps. Medal has one clasp only attached 1893-94, also entitled to Africa General Service medal on last medal roll of 1902 and states discharged. Often medals and clasps supplied at different times, Excellent condition, nice tone, minimal wear, few marks if any, very interesting history, comes with copy medal rolls.
Medal roll states, 1892 clasp Awarded for his service during the expeditions against "The Tambiin" of Sierra Leone between 8 March 1892 and 11 April 1892.
Second medal roll 1893-94 clasp ,states awarded for his service during expeditions against
I). The Sofas in Sierra Leonne, between 26 November 1893 and 20 January 1894 in reprisals against raids into French Territory.
II). And personnel (with the exception of the Royal Navy) who took part in an expedition against the Chief Fodeh Silah along the Gambia River in reprisal for slave raiding and attacks in the districts west of Cape St Mary between 22 February 1893 and 11 March 1894.
Third medal roll, Sierra Leonne 1898-99 clasp was awarded for his service during in the Hut Tax War in Sierra Leone 18 February 1898 to 9 March 1899.
