WW1 Pair, Bedford Regiment - Named To Perry
A WW1 Pair and WW2 Defence Medal awarded to 58590, Private Bertie Perry, who served with both the 2nd and 3rd Battalions the Cheshire Regiment in Salonika.
The details of his awards are as follows:
British War Medal and Victory Medal named to 58590 PTE. B. PERRY. CHES. R.
Defence Medal unnamed as issued.
The medals are loose and come with replacement ribbons.
Perry had prior to WW1 served with the Bedford Regiment, having left the service in 1912, he re-enlisted into the Cheshire Regiment on the 14th June 1916, and in November of that year, he moved with the regiment to serve with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, serving in Salonika taking part in the occupation of Maziko and the capture of Barakli Jum’a, Kumli and participating in the Battle of Doiran.
When hostilities ended, the regiment moved to Gallipoli to occupy the Dardanelles Forts. His pension/service records confirming he was present with the regiment during this time can be viewed by clicking on here if you have a subscription to ‘find my past’. He left the service in 1919, having been quite ill for some time with dysentery and malaria. Having been born in August 1893 he would have been 47 at the commencement of WW2 and the group also includes a Defence Medal and Home Guard instruction book and Home Secretary Medal Award Slip. A Mr Bertie Perry, living in Hertfordshire, does appear on the 1939 Register (which can be viewed by clicking on here, again if you have access to Ancestry) - this man died in 1974.
