WW1 Single Medals

1914 Mons Star With Bar, Cheshire Regiment - Named To Burns (*)

5 Month(s) Left
Price: £195.00

A 1914 Mons Star with clasp awarded to 7955, Private Stephen S. Burns who served with the Cheshire Regiment, and later as 19167, Corporal with the Scots Guards.

Burns arrived in France on 16/08/14, the Medal Index Card and the medal roll confirming the clasp can be viewed by clicking on here and on here, (if you have access to Ancestry), although a paper copy of the MIC will be provided with this listing.

The details of his award are as follows:

1914 Star (with Mons clasp) named to 7955. PTE. S. S. BURNS. CHES: R.

Burns medal roll, (which can be viewed by clicking on here, again if you access to Ancestry), shows that he served with the 1st Cheshire Regiment. His service number indicates that he enlisted with the regiment between February 1905 and January 1906.

The regiment landed in France in August 1914, as shown on Burn’s Medal Index Card, and was involved in the Battle of Mons, the retreat, the Battle of Marne and the Battle of Aisne, to name but a few. Many of the regiment were either killed or captured during this time, it’s interesting that many of those listed on the same medal roll page as Burns are noted as ‘prisoners of war’.

The actions and activities of the regiment can be viewed in detail by clicking on here, here and on here. I have not been able to locate any service records relating to this man and I cannot determine when he transferred to the Scot’s Guards.

Price £195 - please read the terms and conditions below.
