WW1 Single Medals
WW1 1914-15 Star, Liverpool Regiment - Named To Condon
A WW1 1914-15 Star awarded to Private 10978, (later 3757687), Frederick William Condon, who served with the Liverpool Regiment.
The details of his award are as follows:
1914-15 Star named to 10978. F. W. CONDON. L'POOL R. (I do realise that the wording if difficult to see on the image but it is there).
The medal is loose and comes with a replacement ribbon. The listing does come with supporting paperwork, but unfortunately I’ve not been able to locate any service records relating to this man.
Condon was born in Southwark, London in 1891. He enlisted with the Liverpool Regiment in 1910. By 1911, he was serving with the with the 2nd Battalion at Limerick in Ireland. Then he moved with the Battalion to Peshawar India, were they served with the 1st (Peshawar) Brigade, 1st (Peshawar) Division.
The Battalion remained in India for the duration of the war, moving to Quetta in December 1917, with the 10th Brigade, 4th (Quetta) Division.
The Battalion remained in India after the war and in 1919 was involved in the North West Frontier campaign. According to his Medal Index Card, which can be viewed by clicking on here if you have access to Ancestry, (although a paper copy will be provided with this listing), Condon also qualified for the British War Medal, Victory Medal and the India General Service Medal with clasps for Afghanistan and North West Frontier 1919.
At some point he transferred to the Royal Garrison Artillery serving as a Driver with service number 1418493. He had three brothers, all served in the forces, (Albert who served with the RMLI); Alfred who served with the 10th Hampshire Regiment, (wounded at Gallipoli) and David who served with the RFA.
