A set of medals to the Salt brothers. William served in the Machine Gun Corps during WW1, and Harry who served in the RAF during WW2.

The medals awarded to William Salt include:

British War Medal & Victory Medal named to 11231 PTE. W. SALT. M.G.C.

Memorial Plaque named to WILLAM SALT

These medals are loose, with their original ribbons, along with the Memorial plaque which comes in original box of issue with condolence slip.

The group also includes the WW1 memorial certificate, and a funeral card along with a picture of William Salt in uniform.

The medals awarded to Harry Salt include:

1939-45 Star

France & Germany Star

Defence Medal

British War Medal, along with Mentioned In Despatches oakleaf emblems (2 sizes).

The medals are unnamed as issued. The medals are loose and come with their original ribbons and box of issue (detailing the same address as shown on his 1939 Register entry) which includes the RAF ticker tape showing the awards and his RAF service and release book along with a separate letter from the RAF Records Office which details his MID in addition to his MID certificate.

FURTHER INFORMATION:

William Salt was born in 1894, and his brother Harry was born in 1905. They are both shown on the 1911 census living near to Derby, which can be viewed by clicking on here if you have access to Find My Past.

He served with the Notts & Derby Regiment (service number 32811) and later transferred to the Machine Gun Corp. His Medal Index Card can be viewed here, if you have access to Ancestry.

His medal roll details can be viewed by clicking on here, again if you have access to Ancestry. He was killed in action on the 3rd March 1917 while serving with the 60th Machine Gun Company (apart of the 20th Machine Gun Battalion).

His Commonwealth War Graves Commission entry can be viewed by clicking on here.

He is buried at the A.I.F. cemetery at Flers.

His brother Harry is also shown on the 1921 census, which can viewed by clicking on here and the 1939 Register here, again if you have access to Find My Past.

He joined the RAF Volunteer Reserve in November 1941 as a Leading Aircraftman, service number 1492821. His service and release book indicates that he served in France between August 1944 and July 1945.

He was released from the services in November 1945. He passed away in 1988, aged 83, details can be seen here.
