A WW2 Mentioned In Despatches medal group awarded to Flying Officer Harry Settle RAF. Settle was a Leading Aircraftman in the RAF, and was commissioned as an acting Pilot Officer in December 1942. He was made Pilot Officer in February 1943, before being promoted from Pilot Officer to Flying Officer in August 1943.

Two days after ‘D’-day, he was ‘Mentioned In Despatches, which was detailed in the London Gazette on the 8th June 1944, the London Gazette entry can be viewed by clicking on here.

I cannot trace any operational details in regards to this man or the squadron in which he served, but it would appear that he relinquished his commission in November 1945. A summary of all his Gazette entries can be viewed by clicking on here. I have undertaken no further research into this man.

The details of his awards are as follows:

1939-45 Star unnamed as issued.

France & Germany Star unnamed as issued.

Defence Medal unnamed as issued.

British War Medal (with MID emblem) unnamed as issued.

Further details of WW2 medal award criteria, can be viewed by clicking on here and scrolling to the relevant medal entry.

The medals are supplied loose with the remnants of their original ribbons along with the framed original Mentioned in Despatches certificate.
