George was born in Earlstown, Lancashire. Enlisted 1924 as a Stoker 2nd Class. Following various promotions eventually retiring as an Engineering Officer.
He was on board H.M.S. Norfolk against the Bismark, May 1941.
George received his MiD London Gazette 9.3.1943. Good Services in Rescue Work, H.M.S. Borage.
He also served with the New Zealand Navy during the War and latterly as an Engineer with the Nigerian government Services. He took part in the Sea Trials for H.M.S. Ark Royal being head hunted to serve in the Boiler Rooms during testing at full pressure.
George died at Tiverton 16th January 1959.
