WW2 Medal Group, R.A.O.C. Attributed To Bailey
A WW2 medal group attributed to an Alfred George Bailey who served in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps supplied in an RAOC medal box addressed to Bailey at 1 Trosley Road, Upper Belvedere Kent (near to London).
Whilst not the most glamorous unit in the British Army, the RAOC played a vital role during the war, details of which can be viewed by clicking on here.
The details of his awards are as follows:
Defence Medal unnamed as issued.
British War Medal unnamed as issued.
Further details of WW2 medal award criteria, can be viewed by clicking on here and scrolling to the relevant medal entry.
The medals are loose and complete with their original ribbons, wax packets and a Medal Awards Slip which confirms the two awards and an additional slip confirming that this is Bailey’s full entitlement.
FURTHER DETAILS:
According to the 1939 Register, Alfred George Bailey was 37 in 1939 and employed as a ‘senior clerk’ - an age and occupation which could well explain why he was assigned to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps.
The register can be viewed by clicking on here, (if you have a subscription to ‘find my past’). Associated references on this page indicate that Bailey died in 1973.
