Price: £195.00

A WW1 medal group awarded to 1270 (later 800392), Driver (later Corporal) Harold Murphy who served with the Royal Field Artillery.

According to Murphy’s Medal Index Card which can be viewed by clicking on here, (if you have access to Ancestry, although a paper copy will be provided with this listing), he arrived in France on the 6/3/15.

The details of his awards are as follows:

1914-15 Star named to 1270, DVR. H. MURPHY. R.F.A.

British War Medal and Victory Medal named to 1270 CPL. H. MURPHY. R.A.

The medals are supplied loose, with replacement ribbons along with a set of contemporary miniature medals, and a photo of Murphy in uniform.

FURTHER DETAILS:

Murphy’s medal roll details can be viewed by clicking on here and on here, (again if you have access to Ancestry). Sadly, neither of these provide any indication as to which unit he served with and I have been unable to find any service records relating to this man.

However, his MIC indicates that he was awarded a Silver War Badge, the details of which can be viewed by clicking on here. This document notes that he enlisted in September 1914, and served initially with 6/A Reserve Brigade.

While not mentioned on his MIC, Murphy was also awarded a Military Medal in 1918, while serving with the B/230th Brigade RFA (TF). The MM Medal Index Card entry can be viewed by clicking on here, (if you have a subscription to ‘find my past’), whereas the supporting London Gazette entry can be viewed by clicking on here.

The SWB entry also notes that he was discharged in March 1919.

The actions and activities on the unit that he served in when he earnt his Military Medal can be viewed by clicking on here. In late 1917 and in 1918 they were heavy involved in action including the Battle Of Cambria.
